February 8th, 2011 Forecast

Today is shaping up as the warmest day since January 2nd in Philadelphia as temperatures are nudging towards the mid 40's.   Yesterday's high of 44 equaled January 19th's mark.  Unfortunately for those who are weary of winter, this mild spell will take a break as cold air shoots back into the region tonight and tomorrow morning in the form of a cold front.

Tonight:   Some showers will accompany the front and an associated southern disturbance that will track offshore and enhance some moisture around the region after midnight.   Those showers look to transition from rain to snow, with a coating possible in the far north and west (Berks/Lehigh Valley) tomorrow morning, with an inch or two of accumulating snow possible in the Poconos.    Temperatures by morning will range from 30 far north to the upper 30's south of the city.

Tuesday:   Becoming windy and gradually colder.  We'll get some brief temperature rise in the morning before slowly falling temperatures take control in the afternoon as cold air pushes east in the wake of the front.  Early morning rain showers transition to snow showers before the stuff associated with the front ends.   By dinner, expect temperatures ranging from the upper 20's in the Lehigh Valley to lower 30's in Philadelphia to mid 30's at the Shore.   Northwest winds at 15-25 mph will feature some higher gusts.   A few afternoon snow showers can't be ruled out with the advance of colder air, especially to the north of town.

Coming Later This Evening:   Our next profile in Weatherman's Week and and update on the Thursday storm.
