Believe it or not, February 2011 is above average in temperatures. Thank Valentine's Day and those low 60's that bumped the monthly temperature (so far) to 33.1 degrees, 0.1 degrees above average. Yeah, it's "normal" for the most part but in a winter that has lacked in warmth this is one point that the warm-mongers can take solace in. February has been volatile so far -- temperatures jumped a fair bit from the teens that occurred on Friday morning to the 62 degree high on Monday, with likely warmer temperatures to follow later on this week.
Precipitation so far is below average (0.98" total, 0.36" below where we should be), with only one tenth of an inch of snow so far in Philadelphia and no more snow officially on the ground at the Airport. The slow retreat of snow commences across the Delaware Valley as the waterlogged ice pack in the suburban yards continues to slowly melt.
