Summery For The Fourth of July
Today looks like a typical 4th of July day -- a good deal of sun mixed with clouds from time to time, very warm temperatures that hit the 90 degree mark locally this afternoon, and the threat of an isolated thunderstorm popping up later on today. While we will not be pursuing a record high today (that's 103), it will definitely be a warm one.
Regarding the thunder threat, any storms that do pop will be isolated in nature. Storms should pop in the afternoon from Philly on south and at the Shore as the last remnants of yesterday's trough/front linger and provide the spark to fire a storm or a few storms up. Not everyone gets wet but if you're south of town or east of town, you have a shot of getting a 20-30 minute storm to move through later on. The farther north and west one resides, the lower the humidity levels while temperatures will still be pretty warm...but your storm chances are lower north than they are south.

Rumbles & Grumbles
You might have awaken a few times last night with the sound of thunder popping outside your window. Those thunderstorms we talked about last night moved through in the early morning hours and provided some needed rains but also a few moments where they were announcing themselves...perhaps a bit rudely and loudly in the process. Those storms as of 5:30 AM are along the Garden State Parkway in Ocean County on north, as well as an area of steadier rains across Central and North Jersey. All of that is slowly pushing northeast and will work out of the area over the next few hours.
A break awaits for us this morning, perhaps accompanied with a stray shower or two. However, daytime heating will agitate the atmosphere as an upper level disturbance rumbles through the region. This will spark more shower and storm activity this afternoon. The higher res modeling suggests timing of the storms could be after 3 or 4 PM locally in Philadelphia but those storms really could pop any time after noon today. We're not anticipating any severe weather locally but some localized downpours and loud rumbles of thunder aren't out of the question. The strongest of storms may set up south of town as dynamics are "better" for stronger storms south of the city but there may be more storms locally and points north as we have the upper level system nearby.
Any storms that do pop will move east -- and will weaken with the setting sun. We will have a nice day on Saturday as this system is out of the area.
Temperatures today should hit 80 or get into the low 80's based on location -- warmest in Delaware and South Jersey (away from the coast).
