Brushing A Record
A muggy, yucky morning locally as temperatures are starting out in the 75-80 range throughout the Delaware Valley, poised for a run into the mid and upper 90's throughout the region as we get a west wind and a downslope effect to bump our temperatures up a good bit.
Record highs today are generally in the 96/97 degree range for everyone but Allentown (98) and Georgetown, DE (101) and with temperatures that should top out in the 96-98 degree range throughout the inland areas a few record highs can't be ruled out this afternoon. Philly's record high is 97 and while we're holding to our forecast high from yesterday (96) an extra degree won't make much difference -- it's hot no matter how you slice it.
Combining the heat with dew points that will likely hang out in the 65-72 range at many locations today and heat index values will top out around 100, perhaps reaching as high as 105 in a couple of places during the peak heat of the day. If you have to be out, bring plenty of water and dress as cool as possible to be able to handle the heat. Thankfully today will be the last of the it as temperatures will drop back several degrees on Wednesday, with humidity levels lowering as well.
A pop-up storm or two can't be ruled out this afternoon, either, but given that the primary wind flow is westerly today and not from the south or southwest it will be a bit tougher to get thunderstorms to fire up. Any storm that does pop in this airmass could be locally strong but odds favor most of us stay dry today.
