Wind has been with us much of the night as the cold front that ended our May-like weather crossed the region between 8 and 9 PM last night. While temperatures this morning have not fallen as much as advertised thanks to a lack of "true cold" on the backside of the front, it is going to be end up much colder than yesterday as temperatures struggle to reach 50 in many locations, likely not getting back to that point north of the city. If you were out at Midnight, the "high" for the day was established at 56 degrees in Philadelphia.
Wind gusts could match that temperature today and high wind warnings are out across the region for the potential of wind gusts to 60 mph at times. The most likely times for higher wind gusts will be between 11 AM and 6 PM as the pressure gradient between a strong high in the Northern Plains and a strong low in Eastern Canada. We're at the end of the wind tunnel and get to enjoy wind gusts over 50, perhaps to 60 mph at times today. The potential for brush fires exists as well across South Jersey and Delaware (snow pack has been gone for a longer time to the south and the lack of rain of late has helped to keep everything dry down there) while our recently melted snow pack in Philadelphia and points north limits somewhat our fire potential today.
The winds of change will bring some rain (and snow/ice north of the city) to our region on Sunday evening. Doug and I will talk about that later today.
