This morning's brief round of rain (and snow up north of here) is the leading edges of a return to winter chill around Philadelphia. While temperatures this morning are rather mild -- generally in the upper 30's to around 40 in the city -- don't expect that to last. The showers in association with a cold front that will move through and push winter's return back upon us. Temperatures will probably hold steady through midday before a slow fall in the temperature commences. By dinner, temperatures around freezing should be common around Philadelphia, while the temperature will drop closer to 30 or colder north/west.
On top of the increasing chill will be an increasingly stiff wind that will pick up shortly after sunrise. Winds will veer to the west-northwest, increasing to 15-25 mph with higher gusts (40+) during the day. Wind advisories are out for today due to the potential for stronger gusts than 40 mph, which are certainly possible at times in parts of the region through the day. Skies will feature a mix of sun and clouds through the day, with more clouds towards sunset as a reinforcing shot of cold air marches east in the afternoon. This reinforcing shot of cold could trigger some afternoon and early evening snow showers or flurries, particularly north of the city. Any snow shower activity should occur after 3 PM with the afternoon wave.
