The paper storm that a week ago looked possible will now just stream some light snow and some flurries across parts of Southern Delaware tonight as the northern branch of the jet is acting as an effective roadblock for any northward advancement of the storm system. The result for most everyone else will be a mostly cloudy and cold night, giving way to a reinforced punch of chill for Thursday before the cold begins to slowly ease on Friday and this weekend.
Tonight: Any light snow or flurries look to be confined to Sussex County in DE, with the rest of the region either cloudy or mostly cloudy overnight. Low temperatures will range from the teens north to the low 20's in the city and points south. Winds generally 6-12 mph from the west-northwest.
Thursday: Clouds break for sun in the morning, with breezy and chilly conditions continuing through the day. Highs will top out in the 20's in many locations, with the city nudging out at 30. Winds from the west and northwest at 12-18 mph will add a chill to the air and drop wind chills into the teens or low 20's for much of the day.
Snow chances in the next seven days are quite low as a milder regime builds in thanks to surface high pressure over the Southeast. It will be breezy for a couple of those days as we're getting a "tunnel effect" between the southern high and low pressure that tracks through the Southern Canada on Saturday and Sunday, with Philadelphia's temperatures moderating through the 40's over the weekend.
