Update, 6 PM: Watch has been dropped. Probably one of the quicker watches to get issued and cancelled in a while. Not enough instability nor duration of daytime heating to support the earlier storms. Enjoy the evening...it should stay dry at this point.
Update, 5 PM: Storms have fizzled across Central PA but the watch remains out. Can't rule out thunderstorm or two next few hours but the odds are favoring no storms than any storms...especially around here.
Temperatures vary quite a bit by location -- from a chilly 59 in Allentown where warmer air never fully mixed in at the surface to the lower 80's in Philadelphia, Millville, and points south. Forecasting temperatures in April with a warm front lurking in the area is akin to herding drunken cats -- skill is not needed, just luck. Unfortunately for the Lehigh Valley, your warm front hasn't arrived. Philly's got it though.
A cool front lurks on the western horizon though and it will put an end to the warm hours that we've experienced in Philly and points south. As the front moves into this warmer airmass and combines with its own instability, thunderstorms have broken out across Central Pennsylvania. While nothing as of 4 PM has gone severe, the potential for a few of those storms to the west of us to do so over the next few hours can't be ruled out. A severe thunderstorm watch is out until 11 PM for Berks, Lehigh, Lancaster Counties, the Poconos, and points west. Thunderstorm development isn't widespread this afternoon (thank this morning's fog for that) but because some areas have coaxed some decent sunshine, especially west, the risk for a few severe storms this evening in Central PA can't be ruled out.
If Philly gets thunder, the best odds would be in the 8-9 PM timeframe but given the position of storms on radar the best chances for anything look to be to the city's north.
