Surging Into Spring

It wasn't a record today in Philadelphia -- we missed the mark by one degree it appears -- but today's high of 79 is the year's highest to date.   Spring has arrived....again, for a fleeting moment before a cold front ends the warmth tomorrow, but temperatures this afternoon made a run towards record levels in some locations.   Record highs were widespread to the south of us -- Georgetown, DE (tied), Baltimore, and DC (both of which were broken) reached or breached record highs for the date.

The warm air was shallow and was unable to break through the hills just north of Philadelphia.   An inversion of cooler air held in place at the surface over the Lehigh Valley and the high there only got to 64 degrees, contrasted with 72 down in Reading and 79 in Pottstown.
