April 18th, 2011 Forecast

We just can't shake frontal boundaries and rain chances this Spring.   While this upcoming week will feature some nice days, cobbling together three nice days in a row is a task that's too much to ask out of Mother Nature.   A frontal boundary separating warmth from lingering chill will hang out over our region for the first half of the week, lifting north on Wednesday ahead of a low pressure center before driving south on Thursday after the low passes by.   This frontal boundary will play a factor in the weather for the next three days, starting off with a wave of low pressure that tracks east tomorrow and brings shower and thunderstorm chances starting later in the afternoon for areas north and west of Philadelphia, then a second wave brings more widespread shower and storm chances for the region on Tuesday.

Tomorrow's wave will generally pass to the north but will nudge the front slightly southward on Monday night to help provide the highway for the second wave.   For everyone south of the PA Turnpike or I-195, Monday will be a dry day with just passing clouds.   Expect highs in the mid and upper 60's for the region tomorrow after a start in the upper 30's (north) to mid 40's (city and south).   Some patchy fog can't be ruled out late tonight in the usual suspect spots thanks to the afterglow of two to three inches of rain in the region.

Week Ahead:   The aforementioned frontal boundary lifts north on Wednesday to provide us a one day spike in temperatures, with highs likely to approach or even exceed 80 in some spots.  Low pressure will pass on by, dragging the front back south with some thunderstorms along it, but giving us a pretty nice Thursday before clouds come on back for Friday.   More thunderstorms are possible for Saturday as another storm organizes in the Midwest and lifts into the Great Lakes.
