Near record warmth is certainly in the cards for Monday....IF we get a good amount of sunshine in place. Tomorrow's forecast is a bit tricky and is sunshine dependent but if we can coax sunshine for a sizable chunk of the day temperatures could ultimately approach the record high of 84 degrees, set back in 1887 in Philadelphia. Before that sunshine appears, however, we'll have some drizzle or perhaps a couple of showers to our north tonight as warm air continues to surge in aloft. That, combined with a southerly surface wind off of the Atlantic could lead to patchy drizzle and shower activity north of the city. Tonight's temperatures don't drop much -- generally upper 40's to mid 50's.
If we can get the sun out quick enough tomorrow, temperatures will make a run at the mid 80's across inland areas. Residual low clouds will stick around the longest at the Shore and combined with a seabreeze, temperatures will be hard pressed to get much past the lower and middle 60's at the Shore. Timing the sun's return is low confidence but my thinking is that the sun should pop out between 10 and Noon, which should provide enough warming to get to the 80's across the region and across suburban South Jersey (generally the NJ Turnpike and NW of that). The warmest temperatures will be across the western suburbs.
The Week Ahead: The warm up that's coming for Monday is short lived, however, as a cold front crosses the region early on Tuesday morning with showers and thunderstorm chances that could linger off and on through the day Tuesday and begin on Monday night. It doesn't look like a widespread, heavy rain event, but a smattering of showers and storms can't be ruled out. Wednesday, right now, may feature a lingering shower or two...with more sunshine expected Thursday and Friday before a storm system moves in for next weekend. As of now, next Saturday looks rather wet with a chance for widespread rainfall.
