April 4th, 2011 Forecast

An actual warmup is on the way, bringing an end to a near two week run of chilly weather that brought snow and thoughts of February instead of summer to the region.   Temperatures should make a run into the 70's in a number of locations tomorrow afternoon, especially from Philly on south as sunshine and southwest winds help boost temperatures.    To accompany that transition to warmth, a warm front will cross the region later tonight with a period of showers, some of which linger into the morning hours on Monday to the north of the city.   Sunshine will break out from southwest to northeast, with temperatures warming quickly from midday on in the mild April sunshine.

Tonight's lows will generally drop into the lower and middle 40's outside of the Poconos as clouds and showers work through --  there could be some temperature rise late tonight south of the city as the warm front works in.   Temperatures on Monday afternoon warm into the 60's north, 70's from the city and immediate suburbs on south.  Winds will pick up from the south and southwest at 12-20 mph, perhaps gusting to 30 mph or higher at times.

The Week Ahead:   The warmth will not last all that long as a cold front will cross the region on Tuesday morning with a period of rain and thunder, some of which could be accompanied by gusty winds.   Tuesday afternoon and night will feature gusty breezes as cooler air returns.   The rest of the week will be accompanied by yo-yo weather -- temperatures warm back up on Thursday and then again this weekend as lows track just to our north and drag a cool front back just to our south, only to be followed by the cool front returning north as a warm front again.   We could get back into the 70's next weekend if guidance is correct.
