April 12th, 2011 Forecast

Another one day fling with summer will come to a quick end as a cold front crosses the region overnight.   The front will bring thunderstorms with it, some of those possibly severe to the west of Philadelphia as they move in this evening.  By the time the storms get here, some of the daytime pop from the atmosphere will have subsided and severe weather chances will be limited to an extent.  However, gusty winds can't be ruled out with those storms as they move in later on this evening.

Unfortunately, the earlier thoughts of a nicer midweek look to be leaving us as quickly as today's warm up.  The front will stall off the coast, thanks to upper level energy closing off in the atmosphere with a digging trough on the west side of this front.   The upper level low will help agitate a surface low across the Appalachians, which will move east-northeast on Tuesday into Wednesday.   The front's stalling will lead to clouds and occasional showers on Tuesday across the region, with east-northeast winds picking up in the afternoon as low pressure intensifies.   Temperatures will slowly slip downwards during the day on Tuesday, especially later in the day as showers increase in coverage and become a steadier rain.  We could be flirting with 50 degrees by dinner time after starting near 60 tomorrow morning.   Yeah, spring is springing like a broken Slinky!

We'll update the severe weather chances over the evening, as well as talk about the upper level low and its associated rains late tonight.
