Summer-like warmth is about to return to the region although we won't be able to shake the wet pattern that has plagued us for the better part of the last ten days. Yeah, in addition to some thunderstorms that should be moving on through later this afternoon and evening we have more thunderstorms in the forecast for Tuesday. Tuesday's thunderstorms could be rather potent as an area of low pressure moves east along a weak cool front. This front looked like it would avoid us until Wednesday for a while but recent computer guidance has the front moving on through tomorrow night. The front really won't matter much in cooling us off as the front will stall and eventually fizzle out to our south, but the low pressure center has some pretty impressive dynamics with it and should be the focal point for thunderstorm activity tomorrow afternoon and evening.
Out ahead of tomorrow afternoon's storms, temperatures should jump into the mid and upper 80's across inland regions and into the 70's at the Shore thanks to west and southwest breezes at 10-15 mph. It wouldn't surprise me if we flirted with 90 on a few optimistic bank thermometers in the city. It'll be humid as well as dewpoints hang out in the mid 60's -- definitely a summery feel in the region.
Before that, passing showers and storms later on this afternoon and evening could bring some gusty winds and small hail to the region...perhaps even fire off a few severe storm warnings. Once any storms move through, tonight should quiet down and be a touch muggy with lows in the mid 60's in Philly, lower 60's in the coolest burbs.
More on tomorrow's severe weather chances in the morning.
