May 16th, 2011 Forecast

Scatterings of showers and storms will be a part of our week's weather as a broad area of low pressure at the surface and in the upper atmosphere meander around the Mid Atlantic, stuck in place by an increasing ridge of high pressure in the Atlantic.   While there will be periods of wetter weather this week and times when sunshine may be a bit more commonplace for a fleeting moment or two, the forecast through at least Friday will contain some showers and storms as this upper level feature is in no hurry to move anywhere.

Scattered showers and storms that develop this afternoon will continue into the evening hours before activity tapers off towards Midnight.   We could see more patchy fog around the region later on this evening as well.  Lows tonight will be in the upper 50's and lower 60's.

Monday's going to feature a touch of sun in some spots but with a weak boundary to the west of Philadelphia the region could see some scattered afternoon showers and storms, with the best chances across Pennsylvania.   High temperatures will range from the 60's at the Shore to the 70's across inland areas.

The Week Ahead:   Tuesday and Wednesday look particularly unsettled as a piece of energy fires up around the upper level disturbance and, combined with southeast winds, funnels additional rain and thunder into the region.   Tuesday night into Wednesday could be particularly soggy in parts of the area with localized heavier rainfall.   Friday could also feature some more widespread thunderstorms as the upper disturbance moves overhead.   We could, perhaps Sunday, enter a bit of a drying trend as the system finally pulls far enough away.

New To Market:   Channel 6 will have a new part-time weather forecaster on weekend mornings.  Chris Sowers, last seen on Fox in Chicago, will be a part of a reshuffling in the weather department that sees Adam Joseph go to weekdays at 4 PM and Melissa Magee going to weekend nights.
