Thunder Threat Today

A slow moving batch of thunderstorms has rumbled through Pennsylvania early this morning, bringing some heavy rains and some gusty winds to areas to our west.   Given the slow movement of the storms (around 20 mph to the east), some localized stream rises and ponding of water on roadways has occurred in a few spots out near Harrisburg, with some spots picking up a quick one to two inches of rain in an hour's time.

Today's weather will feature these slow moving, scattered batches of thunderstorms in parts of the region at various times throughout the day.   After this morning's thunderstorm complex moves away, more thunderstorms should develop in the afternoon with daytime heating enhancing a stalled front that lingers over the region.   The best chances for thunder development will be across Pennsylvania this afternoon and across the rest of the region as we work into the evening.   There is a slight risk of severe weather out to our west today -- generally for gusty winds but some random large hail reports can't be ruled out.   Localized heavy rains may be the calling card of today's storm activity more than hail/wind.   While it's ruinous to outdoor activity it is needed around most of the region as we've been quite dry the last four weeks locally.

Temperatures today are a bit tricky due to the cloud cover and this morning's thunder activity.  70's are more likely to the north and 80's should occur for highs from Philadelphia on south assuming some sunshine pops out later on this morning and the fog lifts.
