Pop Up Thunder For Some This PM

The transition day from our nice stretch of weather to the next round of heat will be accompanied by some scattered afternoon and early evening thunderstorms across parts of Central and Northeastern Pennsylvania.   These storms will pop up as we work towards and into the afternoon hours, generally across the hills of Northern Pennsylvania, sliding slowly southeastward as the afternoon marches on.   With warming temperatures and sufficient dynamics, a few of those storms could become severe this afternoon, with a slight risk of severe generally to the north and west of I-81 in Central and Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Computer modeling (NAM, below) suggests the showers and storms could graze the Lehigh Valley late this afternoon, perhaps the northern and western burbs this evening before they fall apart towards sunset.   Dynamics over our area aren't as good to support any storms sustaining themselves much past sunset should they move southeast towards the Philadelphia area.   However, Allentown, Reading, and perhaps the upper parts of Montgomery, Bucks, and Chester Counties have a chance at getting a thunderstorm towards sunset.

Highs today will get into the upper 80's in many locations, a prelude to a much hotter regime for Wednesday and Thursday when temperatures jump into the upper 90's both days, with a record high looming for Wednesday afternoon (record for tomorrow is 95).
