There's some good news...and not as good news...on the thunder front for this weekend. It is looking a bit less likely that Sunday will feature a widespread round of passing thunderstorms through the region as computer modeling plus radar trends suggest that the best chances of thunder stay to our south, generally following the path of atmospheric least resistance along an old trough boundary from yesterday's system. This means that we should coax pretty decent weather for most of Sunday, at least for those of us in Philadelphia and points north.
Looking at radar trends to our west -- there are a couple of blobs of thunderstorm activity (one in the Ohio Valley, a second back in Iowa and Missouri) that are moving east and southeast. These MCS systems will generally track towards the southern Mid Atlantic and probably be more of a nuisance for the Delmarva and points south later tonight and Sunday.
Locally, some pop up thunder can't be ruled out this afternoon thanks to daytime heating, temperatures in the mid and upper 80's, and good ol' fashioned summer instability. These pop up storms won't be a huge issue but could delay your outdoor activities by 30 minutes as they pop up and move east. Best chances for any of the pop up thunder this PM will be in Eastern Pennsylvania and Northwest Jersey (higher terrain) but as we work into the evening part of the Ohio Valley storm complex could work into the Delmarva and Maryland, bringing them storm chances.
