Beginning The Sizzle
This morning's temperatures around the region are not all that bad -- generally in the 60's in the suburbs, 70's along I-95. It will be a rather hot day with a mostly sunny sky. Some high clouds could pass overhead for a time this morning in association with a dying thunderstorm complex in New York State but in the end all that blanket of high clouds may do is maybe slice a degree or two off the potential high temperature. No matter how it pans out -- mid and upper 90's is quite hot and with dew point values in the 60's it will feel like it is close to 100 degrees later on this afternoon. Today's record high is 95 and given how the heat has generally overperformed elsewhere around the country that record should get hit later on today. If you need to do your daily run, get it done this morning before the heat kicks in over the next few hours.
Some schools are closing early this afternoon -- mostly schools and/or districts that lack air conditioning in some or most of their buildings (such as the School District of Philadelphia). This will likely be repeated tomorrow as temperatures will be as hot as today, if not a degree or two warmer.
