Sunday's rainfall is pulling out of the region, bringing a chilly breeze and some flooded streams in its wake. Rainfall totals yesterday (see above) ranged from 1 to 2.50", with the highest totals generally north and west of the city although some parts of South Jersey received two inches of rain as thunderstorms helped enhance rainfall to the east of the city on Sunday afternoon. These rains have helped push some of the local streams to or above flood stage, particularly across Eastern Pennsylvania and the northern half of New Jersey, with the usual suspect streams like the Raritan, Pompton, Neshaminy, and Christina (in Delaware) all nudging slightly above flood stage. There's some standing water in the usual suspect locations around town -- Kelly Drive to name one -- but the water on roads is localized in nature and not widespread.
Across the Poconos and Northeast Pennsylvania, precipitation transitioned to an icy rain and even snow for a time last night, with a couple of inches of snow accumulating in the highest elevations of the Pocono Mountains. More snow fell further west and northwest where temperatures were colder sooner, with almost a foot of snow up along the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania falling.
Today's weather will thankfully dry out -- with sunshine returning although it will be accompanied by a chilled breeze during the day. At least tranquility will last a couple of days before the second storm of the week marches in for Thursday -- and yes, another soggy system is in store as computer guidance is painting another inch or two inches of rain for Thursday.
