March 7th, 2011 Forecast

As low pressure pulls through the region over the next several hours, rain will taper off this evening and overnight from southwest to northeast.   The Poconos and Upper Lehigh Valley may transition to freezing rain or sleet as temperatures at the surface cool faster than they do aloft as low pressure pulls in some colder air from Upstate New York.  It wouldn't surprise me if the Poconos even see precipitation end as snow late tonight.   Sunshine will return on Monday but will be accompanied by a bit of a breeze at times.

Tonight:  Rain ends, generally in the late evening or around Midnight, perhaps ending as freezing rain, sleet, or snow north of I-78.   Winds will swing to the northwest as the low lifts through, with lows by morning ranging from the low 30's north of the city to the upper 30's along the coast.

Monday:   Breezy with increasing sunshine.  Highs range from 44 north to 51 south, with northwest breezes at 12-18 mph.

Week Ahead:  Temperatures will bounce around a fair bit over the upcoming week, with fair weather on Tuesday and most of Wednesday before our next storm marches through the Lakes and Western Pennsylvania for Thursday.  This storm, like today's, will bring rain to the region.   There's some uncertainty about track of the low after Thursday -- with one computer model lingering the low around the region for most of Friday while another pushes the storm quickly through.   For now, we're cutting the rain off early on Friday and setting up a nice Saturday.  A clipper could bring a cool down for mid March.
