Coldest Winter Since 2003-2004

Nine weeks of near consistent cold and three weeks of mild weather at the end. That's pretty much the story of this past winter, one which ended up becoming the coldest in Philadelphia since 2003-2004. The average temperature in Philadelphia was 33.1 degrees, 1.7 degrees below average and the second consecutive winter of below average temperatures in Philadelphia (joining 2002-03 and 2003-04 as the last "pair" of below average winters in the last 20 years).   December and January were both significantly colder than average, with December's average almost five degrees below average while January almost came in three degrees below average.  February was 2 1/2 degrees above average (a "Charlie Sheen" month if you will...volatile, moody, a bit of a hot streak to it).

Outside of December 1st, December 15th, and the New Year's timeframe temperatures were solidly below average in Philadelphia, some cases below even the average low temperature.     While meteorological winter is officially over (December-February are the coldest months to average) the possible snow season rambles on...albeit in less fanatic fashion as March's average snowfall is 3.1 inches.   Big snow is still possible -- just not as possible -- as we progress through March.

Once March wraps up, we'll do a comparison of everyone's winter forecasts and compare the hits...and many misses...of the past winter.
