Chilly conditions continue...
Yesterday we had lots of sun through the day. Today, we will see a good deal of mainly high clouds, filtering the sun and making today a bit cooler than yesterday. Most Piedmont highs today will be in the 57-61 degree range.
A cold air damming configuration continues to set up with a strong area of high pressure moving from the Great Lakes into the New England states. That will continue to push chilly air south into our region. At the same time, we will continue to have moisture get lifted up and over that wedge at the surface, and the result will continue to be clouds over the next couple of days. Later tomorrow, as an area of low pressure develops near the coast, some rain chances will spread in and continue into Thursday.
Drier and fairly cold conditions should spread in in gusty northwesterly winds Friday. Highs this weekend will only be in the 50s despite lots of sunshine, and lows both days this weekend could wind up in the light freeze category. Up in the mountains, some snow flakes could fly Friday.
Tomas...
After being heavily sheared yesterday, Tomas is strengthening again today. The system stands a good chance of becoming a hurricane again, and the most likely scenario is a turn to the north toward Hispanola later this week.
